I doubt that dogs
who work diligently
using all of nature’s fragrances
to create their own unique scent
could ever understand
this new generation
of humans
who walk them slowly
staring at cell phones
uninterested in the surroundings
yet work so diligently
applying clouds of synthetic chemicals
to hide their own unique scent
